Does Loci need internet?

Not for chat. Only the one-time model download and optional web search need a connection.
Why chat works with no signal
The model is a file on your device, and that device's own hardware does the work. Nothing has to travel. That's also what makes Loci private and lighter on the planet than cloud AI.
Why search doesn't
The web isn't stored on your device. For today's news, prices, or scores, Loci has to go and get them.
Offline boundary questions
Is Loci really offline?
Yes. Chat works without a connection after a one-time model download.
What is the exception?
Optional web search uses the internet when it is enabled and Loci needs current information.
Does offline mean Loci is a safety device?
No. Loci is not a replacement for emergency services or safety-critical tools.
Simple rule
Chat offline. Search online.
Get the app and a model while you have a connection. After that, chat doesn't need one.
