The role
Loci brings private AI to the phones and computers people already own. Conversations run on the user’s device, and downloaded models can work offline. We’re looking for a hands-on design generalist with exceptional product and UX craft to own how Loci looks, feels, and works across our apps, website, and the rest of the company. You’ll work directly with the founders and engineers, turn complex capabilities into simple experiences, and set a visual standard that stands alongside the best consumer products. This is a role for someone who wants to make the work: explore ideas, prototype, make decisions, and follow the details through to launch.
What you’ll work on
- Design seamless journeys across mobile and desktop, from discovering Loci and getting started to everyday conversations, model selection, and settings.
- Make clear UX decisions about hierarchy, navigation, defaults, and interaction. Challenge unnecessary settings and confusing flows, and speak up when a design is likely to lose users.
- Create beautiful, detailed proposals and interactive prototypes that give engineers a clear path to implementation, including loading, empty, error, and recovery states.
- Own the visual and interaction design of our apps and website, and take on the broader design needs of a small company, including launches, presentations, and marketing materials.
- Build a cohesive design system in Figma with reusable components, typography, spacing, interaction patterns, and accessible states across platforms.
- Talk to users, run usability checks, and use feedback and product evidence to improve the experience. Review shipped work and carry the important details across the finish line.
What you bring
- A portfolio of shipped digital products that demonstrates strong visual taste, thoughtful interaction design, and the ability to make complex experiences feel simple.
- Deep, hands-on UX experience. You can explain the problem, alternatives, tradeoffs, your own contribution, and what changed for users.
- Fluency in Figma and Claude’s design tools at claude.ai/design. You can move quickly from exploration to a polished proposal and critically refine the output.
- Excellent craft in layout, typography, color, motion, and responsive design, with attention to accessibility and native mobile and desktop conventions.
- The judgment and confidence to challenge the brief, make a recommendation, and explain it clearly to founders and engineers.
- The range and ownership to handle different design needs, prioritize what matters, and work through ambiguity in a small team.
Experience that helps
- Brand strategy, visual identity, or building a cohesive brand across product and marketing.
- Designing consumer AI products or making unfamiliar technical capabilities approachable.
- Coding is a bonus, not a requirement. If you also work in Rust and Dioxus, you can help build a reusable component toolkit and maintain our shared ui/ crate alongside engineering.
You don’t need experience with every tool listed. Show us the problems you’ve solved and how you approach unfamiliar ones.
