  • You want memory you can read and edit in Settings, and a Naval mode that limits what the app talks to.

  • You want it today on Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad or Android, with no invite, no waitlist and no account.
  • You want web search without an account, documents, pictures, and a model picked for your Mac at first launch.
  • You want your phone to use the Mac's models, or you use Android.

Can I download Underdog today?

On iPhone and iPad, yes: the Underdog AI app is on the App Store, needs iOS 18, and needs no invite. On a Mac with Apple silicon it is an invite-only beta, and Windows is a beta too; without an invite you leave your email on the waitlist, and underdog.ai gives no date for general availability. Linux and Android are listed as on the way. All of this is as of October 20, 2026. Loci is downloadable today on Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad and Android.

Is Underdog free?

Yes. Its pricing page says free, no ads, no subscription, free forever. Underdog earns a small share when it buys something for you, paying with a one-time card made for that order. Loci is free with no paid tier, and makes no purchases.

Which one has the smarter model?

They share the same model at the top. Underdog 27B is a fine-tune of Qwen 3.8 27B, which Underdog scores at 33.7 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index against 31.9 for Claude Opus 4.6 Max; Loci runs Qwen3.8 27B too, at 34 against 32 under index version 4.3.2. Underdog also ships Woof 4B and Saluki 27B; Loci offers Gemma, Qwen, Llama and Phi models sized for your Mac. Judge on your own prompts.

Which one is more private?

Both run the model on your computer, so neither company reads your conversations. Underdog syncs mail directly with your provider, encrypts it on the Mac, and its Naval mode limits it to the servers it needs; its security page lists what it does receive, which is your account email, your membership, the days you opened the app and usage counts you can turn off. Loci needs no account at all, and its privacy policy lists every host the app can contact.
